Surgical Treatment

Tooth Extraction

Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed, others may have advanced periodontal disease, or broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth), or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth also called “third molars” are the last adult teeth to come into the mouth. Wisdom teeth generally come between the age of 20 – 25 years. They can become impacted when they are trapped under the gums or bone, causing considerable pain. When trapped, wisdom teeth can easily decay and may even damage surrounding teeth. As such, impacted wisdom teeth require extraction.

Oral Biopsy

When a suspicious oral lesion is found, a biopsy is often used to detect or rule out oral cancer, a disease that is treatable if caught early. A biopsy involves removing a very small tissue sample under local anaesthesia for laboratory analysis.

If there are any of the following changes in the mouth visit my dental care at the earliest for oral cancer evaluation or biopsy.

  • Any change in the mouth of unknown cause that persist for long periods
  • Red or white patches in the mouth
  • A sore that fails to heal and bleeds easily
  • A lump or thickening inside of the mouth
  • Difficulty in chewing or swallowing
  • A lump in the neck that does not go away

At my dental care, patients are educated and taught to performe an oral cancer self-examination monthly.

Jaw Cyst & Benign Tumor Removal

Jaw cysts are sac-like pouches present within the jaw that are filled with sterile fluids or at times with infectious materials. But cysts can form anywhere in the body and not just in the mouth. Symptomless dental cysts can remain undetected for months or years. Thus they are normally picked up during a routine examination the dental x-rays in particular.

A tumor is an abnormal and uncontrolled growth of cells which are normally present in the body. Benign tumors not a cancerous growths and are not life threatening. Although they are usually not life threatening, they can be quite aggressive and locally destructive and can cause permanent disfigurement or disability if untreated. Jaw cysts/ tumor may cause:

  • Pain and/or swelling due to infection
  • Pus/ other fluid discharge
  • Weakening of the jawbone
  • Teeth being pushed aside
  • Loosening of the teeth
  • Numbness in the face

Dental cyst and tumours needs require immediate attention and treatment. At my dental care, Dr. Ronak Kaul with his vast experience and knowledge in the treatment of on cyst and tumours, a proper treatment plan is formulated that includes root canal of the affected tooth, surgical removal of the cyst/ tumour, removal of the involved tooth if any, bone reconstruction and dental rehabilitation for maintaining a good quality of life. Clinical and radiographic follow up is necessary to know the healing process and recurrence of lesion if any.

If there are any strange growths in the mouth and other issues with the dental health, visit my dental care immediate and do not hesitate to discuss these changes with our doctors immediately.

Jaw Fracture Treatment

Maxillofacial fractures are traumatic breakage of bones involving the jaw bones, bones of the nose, cheek, eye socket bone, etc., as the result of accident, sports injury or even assault. It may also cause injuries to the soft tissues. These fractures need to be treated effectively and quickly in order to avoid life-threatening complications and to restore the normal appearance of the face.

If there is severe pain along with any of the following symptoms following an injury, get to a hospital as soon as possible:

  • Bleeding from the mouth
  • Extreme bruising around the jaw
  • Teeth do not fit together properly on closing the mouth
  • Unable to open or close the mouth
  • Drooling
  • Numb chin or lip
  • Difficulty in speaking

Surgical fixation of the broken bones is the most ideal treatment for maxillofacial fractures. The main aim of the surgery is to restore normal shape and appearance to the face and ensure that the jaw lines are aligned normally. At my dental care the fractures are approximated and stabilized using precise surgical skills.
